In the same way that the types of allergies and allergens vary, so do the reactions that individuals have to these allergens. These reactions can vary in degree and extremity depending on the level of exposure of the allergen and the sensitivity level of the person reacting to the allergen. Usually the type of allergy can be determined from the type of reaction that an individual is having to the allergen.
Airborne allergens like mold, pollen and animal hair usually cause sneezing, nasal congestion, coughing and an itchy throat or nose. Food allergies often cause things like an itchy throat or mouth, hives, a runny nose, rashes, cramps and vomiting. Or in more extreme cases it can lead to difficulty breathing and shock.
Allergies to insect venom present with throat swelling, hives that cover the whole body, diarrhea, nausea, and also in extreme cases difficulty breathing and shock. Though reactions to allergens may vary, it must always be taken very seriously as the reaction is telling us that our body does not cope well when exposed to the allergen. Therefore continued exposure to the allergen without treatment can result in more extreme reactions and possibly become a life-threatening matter.
