One of the most common allergic reactions is the rhinitis. It is an irritating and inflammatory reaction of the nose membranes. Its Symptoms include itching, sneezing (of nose, eyes and ears), running nose, postnasal grip, nasal congestion, headache, tearing, red eyes, eye swelling, insomnia and consequently fatigue. Parent medical history of rhinitis is mostly common.
During childhood, the boys are more disposed to rhinitis than the girls, but in adult age, we have almost the same statistical indexes. The frequency of the crisis may vary a lot from patient to patient, but all complain about the annoying episodes of rhinitis. It can sporadic, seasonal, or perennial. When the patient is sporadically exposed to allergens such as animal contacts or chemical substances (detergents, soaps, etc.), the rhinitis episodes are also sporadic. Pollen or cold caused rhinitis is seasonal.
Perennial rhinitis is always caused by allergens existing at home. Microscopic house dust mites, fungus, indoor pets, furry animals or birds, cockroaches and rodents are the principal sources of allergens at home. Patients with rhinitis might have a house free of carpets and curtains, very clean and airy. Antihistamic substances and nasal sprays may help, but you must try to eliminate the cause, the allergens.
