Drug Interactions of Allergy Shots

Allergy shots work by gradually introducing your immune system to a specific allergen that causes your allergy symptoms. Your doctor must determine first what specific substance you are allergic to. Skin testing and other types of test will be used to do that. After that, an increasing amount of allergen will be injected for over a certain period. This makes your immune system get used to the allergen without giving you adverse allergic reactions.  This type of treatment is usually cost-effective and offers a lifetime of remission of symptoms. It has been reported to boost the immune system from other allergens, making a patient more immune to other substances that can possibly cause allergies.

While this is definitely good news for people who have been suffering from the discomforts of allergies, this treatment can interact with other medications. You must tell your doctor if you are taking any other drugs or medicines before taking allergy shots. People taking medication therapy for heart disease and high blood pressure should tell their doctor about it. Individuals who are using beta-blockers should not also take allergy shots. You just need to tell your doctor whatever drugs of medications you are taking to avoid complications and to look for ways to deal with your allergy.
