The Side Effects of Mast Cell Inhibitors


Mast cell inhibitors can effectively treat allergies. In fact, it is much more effective than antihistamines particularly in dealing with allergic rhinitis. There are typically two common types of mast cell inhibitoSrs that may be used--nasal spray and eye drop medication. However, just like other medications, you must exercise caution in taking it. You should understand the side effects that may occur while using these drugs.

The following is the list of commonly reported symptoms experienced by people when taking this prescription:

  • Redness of and itchiness in the eyes
  • Frequent burning sensations in the eyes especially a few minutes after the application of the drugs, either delivered through nasal spray or as an eye drop
  • Some people can experience swelling of the eyes
  • Frequent sneezing and itching of the nose
  • Congestion of the nasal cavity
  • For some rare cases, nosebleeds occur
  • Irritation of the nasal cavity

While these side effects can definitely cause discomfort, they are relatively mild compared to the side effects one can get from taking antihistamines or corticosteroids.
