Is Eucalyptus Effective Against Allergy?

Many people are familiar with eucalyptus in most chest rubs. What many people do not know are the multiple uses of eucalyptus oil for different allergy treatments that reduce allergy symptoms.

The most common use of eucalyptus oil is relief from congestion. The active ingredients of eucalyptus open up breathing passages and can effectively normalize mucus levels in the sinuses and other areas in the nose and respiratory system. This is the main reason why eucalyptus is a popular ingredient in many medicines for cold and flu. Eucalyptus is marketed in many forms. You can get it in oil form or as a topical treatment. This latter version of eucalyptus can be conveniently put on a small piece of cloth or tissue for easier application in the affected area.

Eucalyptus oil can also have an antibiotic effect. Diffusing the oil in the air can kill bacteria. It can discourage dust mites growth and can kill mold spores. Just apply a small amount of oil in possible areas where molds and mites can grow. Molds and dust mites are the most common cause of most allergies.

However, some people are allergic to eucalyptus. Be sure to check first for any abnormal reactions when handling the oil to be sure. You can also consult your doctor for advice.
